But Finney, a former undrafted free agent who had yet to cash in, failed to properly train over the offseason out of fear that an injury would cost him his signing bonus. Finney a two-year, $8 million deal to replace Justin Britt (whom they would release) and Joey Hunt (who had taken over in 2019 after Britt tore his ACL). There’s been some odd misfortune, as well. In one of the more infamous episodes of the Tom Cable era, Nowak - a college defensive tackle who was playing center for the first time in his career - repeatedly struggled with the most fundamental aspect of the job: Snapping the ball. There have been some cringe-worthy moments, like Drew Nowak’s ill-fated stint as the starter in 2015. Going back two more years, while Unger was in and out of the lineup, the number increases to 11 - tied for fifth-most since 2013, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. The Seahawks, meanwhile, have started eight different players at center in the eight seasons since the trade (that includes the one game in 2020 when guard Damien Lewis moved over on a short week).

Go figure that Unger went on to start all but one game over the next four years with New Orleans and made a Pro Bowl in 2018 before retiring. In 2015, the Seahawks dealt the 28-year-old Unger to the New Orleans Saints in the Jimmy Graham trade, believing his body was breaking down after 13 missed games over the previous two seasons. Unger was the anchor of the Seahawks’ offensive lines during their 2013 and ’14 Super Bowl seasons, a team captain with an All-Pro nod and two Pro Bowls on his resume in Seattle. Like the flavor in the coach’s Bubble Yum, almost none of them have lasted very long. For most of the past decade, they’ve cycled through centers the way coach Pete Carroll goes through a box of gum on game day. The Seattle Seahawks are hoping veteran Evan Brown or rookie Olu Oluwatimi can bring stability to a position that hasn’t had much of it for a while.

And it was at that moment that my new goal in life was, and still is, to become a professional wildlife photographer.Īfter briefly reviewing my images, I turn to the man next to me and say, “That was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.” He nods, still beaming from the encounter, and very fittingly says, “And thus, a wildlife photographer is born. You have reached a degraded version of because you're using an unsupported version of Internet Explorer.įor a complete experience, please upgrade or use a supported browserĬan the Seahawks break the Max Unger curse in 2023? For the first time ever, I felt what it was like to get THE shot. The wolf continued on deeper into the valley and I lowered my camera, feeling exhilarated. Once on the other side, he paused once more, this time looking back for his companions, and that was the moment at which I took the wolf shot I had been looking for. He paused for a moment, observed the crowd, then crossed the road. I was going to get my wolf shots.Īfter a few charged minutes of waiting, a black wolf appeared at the top of the hill in front of us, not thirty yards away. He explained that three black wolves were about to cross the road just in front of us after an unsuccessful moose hunt on the opposite side of the valley. Knowing that this must mean wildlife was close by, I jumped out of the car and asked the ranger what was going on. After a car breakdown that stranded us in the middle of South Dakota for 3 days, 4 cold mornings of watching wolves through scopes from miles away, and a good bit of practice with the 100-400, we found ourselves in a massive traffic jam in the middle of Yellowstone’s Hayden Valley. Little did I know, this was a life changing decision.

Just before leaving, I made an impulsive, last-minute decision to rent the Canon EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 ii lens for the full 17 days of our trip, all in hopes of getting good grizzly bear and/or wolf shots while out in the parks.

The same summer that I started the YouTube channel, I went on a trip to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem with a friend from high school. Originally made as a place to post educational wildlife and travel videos, the channel instead became centered around wildlife photography. Before long, I was shooting just as many still images as I was videos, and my idea for what the YouTube channel would be about began to shift. As I began creating content, I found myself becoming more and more interested in using the 80D for photography as opposed to videography. While in college, I started a YouTube channel called ‘Watts Wildlife.’ When I did this, I bought a new camera to film YouTube videos on, that being the Canon 80D.
